Derek Poteat serves as Regional Director and Qualified Professional at New Beginnings Alliance LLC, where he oversees the delivery of comprehensive services for individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities (IDD) and mental health diagnoses. With over two decades of experience supporting vulnerable populations, Derek is a passionate advocate for high-quality, person-centered care.

His professional journey is rooted in education and hands-on support. Derek spent more than 20 years as a Special Education teacher, including five years as a Behavior Specialist—developing deep expertise in behavioral interventions, individualized planning, and navigating complex learning needs. Beyond the classroom, he has worked in group homes, provided intensive one-on-one support, and taught in correctional settings, serving both incarcerated youth and adults.

​Derek’s leadership is grounded in empathy, experience, and a belief that every person deserves the opportunity to grow, connect, and thrive. He brings a steady presence and a collaborative spirit to every aspect of his work.
